Vuelta Carbon PRO V2 Clincher 45mm (Shimano/SRAM 10/11sp) – Wheel Set 1590g
Wheely GOOD News!
The new Vuelta range of Wheels have just arrived at Identity Cycle.
The Vuelta Carbon Pro V2 Clincher has a medium height 45mm aero profile that makes it super quick once you are pushing over 30kph. It has a deep profile but not to deep, it is still suitable for use in medium cross winds and overall good for a large variety of conditions so still a good all-rounder with a bit more speed .
This wheel set is light , it is very competitive against all the major players, a good carbon rim provides a nice rigid chassis that eats up high frequency road vibration but delivers superior handling and optimal power transfer.
The V2 wheel set is not quite as light as the V1 Pro but is very stiff which makes it more responsive which gives you greater efficiency by delivering every watt power to the rear tyre quicker propelling you forward, faster. The much deeper 45mm profile really delivers once you’re up and going, cutting through the wind with a significant advantage once your over 30kph, the hubs are silky smooth and spin on premium quality sealed bearings that deliver a service life and can be replaced when the time comes. The front hub has 2 sealed bearing and the rear hub has 4 sealed bearing to spread the load more equally across the whole axel length this improves wear and strength significantly - 7075 Alloy CNC axels are used front and rear
The rim is 45mm high monocoque carbon double wall constuction that is 27mm outside and 17mm inside: a wider rim assures more comfort and a superior handling combined with more stiffness and better Aero advantage especially when using 23mm tyres. The carbon is applied in a unidirectional fashion and is the highest performing 3K carbon on the market, 3K carbon ensures better braking and improved durability.
Aerodynamics: the wider and higher profile, if cuts through the wind/air with less turbulence and drag encapsulating the tyre within the body of the rim more significantly, this reduces the friction coefficient and just looks stealthy fast, this wheel set has a very high quality finish and shows the maturity of quality manufacturing facility.
Vuelta even use forged Sapim CX-Ray 2.0 Bladed spokes to ensure perfect length and tensile strength and easy of aftermarket accessibility, many companies have tried to make the humble spoke but only Sapim and DT get it right. Vuelta also use straight pull spokes which are now well proven to offer a longer fatigue life than the older bent hook style, straight pull spokes are easier to work with and service.
The V2 Pro wheels run radial spoke pattern in the front which delivers a light and rigid build, the rear runs radial spoke pattern on the non-drive side and 3 cross on the drive side. The 3 cross pattern handles twisting torque loads from the cassette much better than 1 x Cross or 2 x Cross combinations and radial is not really suitable for Drive side duties generally, the equalised balance that is achieved with radial non-drive and 3 cross on the drive side is very good. Because we ride on the left shoulder of the roads in Australia the drives side get even more of pounding because of the camber or the road is angled against the flatter side of the wheel. The Vuelta Pro wheel also has a high hub flange on the drive side which also improves strength and how responsive the wheel is to rider inputs.
Vuelta make great wheels - They supply a multitude of trade teams and major brands with OE (original equipment) wheels for the last decade.
Because Vuelta supply vast numbers of wheels to the market place, they get large amount of feedback on what works and what doesn’t work.
So you can be assured when it comes to making their own wheels Vuelta use well proven designs and construction methods so you get a wheel set that is super reliable and will deliver great performance at a very competitive price for the quality!
Nothing increases performance and curb appeal than a good set of wheels and if you buy the right set they will give you notable increase in speed.
Bicycle wheels as they spin they increase in weight 2-3 times so saving just one gram on wheels is like saving 2-3 grams so when you save 100g or 200g per wheel set the difference is massive. You will be able to maintain higher speeds, change direction faster, accelerate faster and even cut through the wind faster – its all good news!!!
At 1590 grams for a wheel set they are light some of the lightest you can buy especially for the money
Comparisons
Comparable Carbon Reynolds wheels set the Vuelta V2 Pro is the same weight and $1000 + cheaper
Comparable Fulcrum wheels are 170grams lighter but also $800.00 more with 5mm less profile so a little slower at high speed.
Comparable Zipp 303 are 165 grams lighter and but are $2000.00 more
Warranty
Vuelta wheels come with 1 year Warranty against faulty manufacturing and materials
Warranty Notes and Service Considerations:
Wheels in general can suffer from misuse and accidental damage more than any other part on your bike, you make a mistake and hit a pot hole or curb or you just ride brick like and don’t absorb bumps through your contact points you will be hard on any wheels - these are the realities!
Carbon wheels require special carbon compatible brake pads that improve braking and help dissipate heat, they are also much kinder to the surface of the carbon braking surface. Vuelta wheels come with carbon compatible brake pads as standard equipment. Also the highly regarded Swiss Stop Carbon Brake Pads are also recommend for braking duties.
Carbon wheels are not suitable for long descents where sustained hard braking is required there is a chance that you can over cook carbon rims no matter the brand and this can cause them to delaminate.
It quite notable that Vuelta Wheels require no special proprietary tools to do service work and the spokes are no special one-offs so they will also be easily sourced from your local bike shop/Sapim dealer.
Replacement Shimano/Sram style Freewheels 10/11speed can be sourced for $60.00 and Campeg style for $80.00 – they have a sealed mechanism and spin smooth with a very precise solid engagement and have proven track record for being reliable. Internally they are have a 4 spring loaded paws with 32 teeth of engagement.
